Gee, I thought the GOP controlled all three branches of the federal government, how could this be happening?

OMG, Walter Russell Mead for The Wall Street Journal is ENTERTAINED by the tyrant's show

I'm told the band on the Titanic played well right to the very end.

The GOP grip on the U.S. House remains tenuous with the sudden death of Doug LaMalfa, CA-1, at 65

The Erinyes keep pursuing the Republicans for their crimes.

Sudden death of Republican lawmaker shaves GOP House margin to three votes

... [Doug] LaMalfa's death imperils the Republican House majority, leaving Speaker Mike Johnson with just a three-vote margin after the formal resignation of Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Greene on Monday.

House makeup is presently 218 Republicans to 213 Democrats, leaving Republicans able to lose no more than two votes on any party-line measure, assuming full attendance and participation.

It was also revealed Tuesday that Indiana Republican Congressman Jim Baird, aged 80, has been hospitalized after a car accident.

Democrats are set to gain one additional vote in their caucus after a runoff election in Texas later this month to replace Congressman Sylvester Turner, who passed away last March, taking the Republican margin down to two votes.

Another special election will take place to replace former New Jersey Democratic Congresswoman Mikie Sherill in April after she was elected the state's governor in November. ...

Texas' Tyrant Governor, Republican Greg Abbott, has deliberately denied representation in the US House to the residents of TX-18 since March 2025.

Mad King Ludwig rages against the machine: When Trump pardoned the J6ers, figuring out who deserved it and who didn't was just too hard for him, and so is figuring out Obamacare

He has no clue what to do about Obamacare, so he proposes murdering it.

It's his solution for everything else, so why not?

Kill the lawfully allocated federal spending, kill the federal workers administering it, kill the agencies they worked for, kill the inspectors general making sure you comply with the federal laws you break with every breath, kill Greenland, kill Canada, kill the Houthis, kill the Iranians, and kill the drug boat operators.

Are Venezuelans next? Nigerians? And how many U.S. citizens swept up in ICE raids will die in custody, like the 20 foreigners who already have?

Bankrupting the insurance companies overnight as he is suggesting is simply the political equivalent of what Luigi Mangione did to the United Healthcare CEO.

These pronunciamentos he keeps uttering are piling up into one great heap of nothing more than a mountain of irritable mental gestures, if you don't count the actual bodies left behind.

Republicans repealed Obamacare 37 times after 2010, but it's still alive.

They still have nothing.

A sane person observes that the options are limited with a five seat majority in the U.S. House and a three seat majority in the U.S. Senate, but sane does not describe Mad King Ludwig. He is intent on shoving down the throats of the American people whatever he can no less than Democrats did with Obamacare fifteen years ago. The Uniparty, folks.

Everything Trump does is done with the subtlety of a brick. If only he restricted himself to building.

But that is impossible for him, because he has desires . . ..

Tyrant Trump wants the American military in our streets just like the PLA is in China, in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act which prohibits the use of federal troops to enforce domestic law

Maybe that all-volunteer-army idea wasn't such a great one after all.

A "large standing Army in time of Peace hath ever been considered dangerous to the liberties of a Country".  -- George Washington

The "means of defense against foreign danger have been always the instruments of tyranny at home".  -- James Madison

"When once a standing army is established in any country, the people lose their liberty". -- George Mason

Trump Says He Is Prepared to Send ‘More Than the National Guard’ Into U.S. Cities

... “We have cities that are troubled, we can’t have cities that are troubled,” Mr. Trump said. “And we’re sending in our National Guard, and if we need more than the National Guard, we’ll send more than the National Guard, because we’re going to have safe cities.” ...

The president delivered his speech on the U.S.S. George Washington, an aircraft carrier docked south of Tokyo, at an American military base in Japan that was set up in the aftermath of World War II. It was an unsubtle show of force as Mr. Trump prepares to meet China’s top leader, Xi Jinping, this week, for talks that hold great stakes for the global economy. ...

The president's tariff retaliation against Canada is purely out of personal pique and is a tyrannical abuse of power

The Congress has the tariff authority, not the president, according to the constitution, and needs to reign in the powers it has delegated to the executive if it cares what is good for the country.

65% of the country disapproves of the GOP-controlled Congress.

Tyrant Trump and his FCC want to cancel comedic speech over the public airwaves which 75,019,682 people who didn't vote for him find funny

Don't the PUBLIC airwaves have to serve them, too?

... Through this public spectrum for radio and TV stations, the federal agency has the right to regulate broadcasting and requires each network “by law to operate its station in the ‘public interest, convenience and necessity.’ Generally, this means it must air programming that is responsive to the needs and problems of its local community of license,” according to the FCC website. ...

Typically, the discussion of whether a station violated the FCC’s guidelines centers around children’s programming, a cut to news content, or obscenity — such as Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction during the Super Bowl in 2004. ...

Brooke Rollins, Trump's Secretary of Agriculture, says Trump is America's third revolution

No amount of revolution is ever enough for the odious Uniparty.

Trump's women are the craziest women, the bosom pals of tyrants since at least Aristotle.

This report sounds like there's wiggle room for Israel to take out Iran's Supreme Leader after missile strike on Israeli hospital

Dozens of Iranian missiles strike major Israeli hospital and residential buildings — as Israel hits nuclear sites

... Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to hit back even harder at Iran following the strike.

“We will exact the full price from the tyrants in Tehran,” he vowed in an X post.

Israel’s defense minister, Israel Katz, backed up Netanyahu’s threat.

“These are war crimes of the most serious kind — and [Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei will be held accountable for his crimes,” he tweeted.

“The Prime Minister and I have instructed the IDF to increase the intensity of attacks against strategic targets in Iran and against government targets in Tehran in order to remove threats to the State of Israel and undermine the ayatollahs’ regime.” ...

And there it is:

Like the soul of the tyrant himself, Trump's administration is beset with fear and is full of convulsions and distractions, including on immigration enforcement, reversing last week's pause on deportations

All his life long he is beset with fear and is full of convulsions, and distractions, even as the State which he resembles.

TACO Trump chickens out on more than just tariffs, calls off the ICE raids on agriculture, restaurant, and hotel jobs to quell heartland rebellion

Stephen Miller most hurt.

On Wednesday morning, President Trump took a call from Brooke Rollins, his secretary of agriculture, who relayed a growing sense of alarm from the heartland.

Farmers and agriculture groups, she said, were increasingly uneasy about his immigration crackdown. Federal agents had begun to aggressively target work sites in recent weeks, with the goal of sharply bolstering the number of arrests and deportations of undocumented immigrants. ...

Inside the West Wing, top White House officials were caught off guard — and furious at Ms. Rollins. ...

But the decision had been made. Later on Thursday, a senior official with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Tatum King, sent an email to regional leaders at the agency informing them of new guidance. Agents were to “hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels.” ...

Observe again how quickly Trump is to turn on a dime. The policy changed in less than 48 hours. The last person he talked to can be the most influential, which is not what you want from the leader of the free world. Sometimes he stumbles into the right decision, to be sure, but he can always stumble the wrong way. The tyrant's soul resembles the state which he rules, full of chaos and conflicting desires which he is utterly unable to satisfy.

Normally you institute protectionist policies like tariffs when you already have something to protect, not before

But our Orwellian Republicans put the cart before the horse.

You can't return to something which no longer exists. The net trade deficit for 2024 is nearly $1 trillion, instead of flat like during the post-war up until Reagan, who first ran in 1976 against Ford, when tariffs still had something to protect but we listened to the siren song of free-trade instead.

That is why the Trump administration has had to cast about for at least six different reasons for instituting tariffs at the present time, none of which are at all convincing otherwise there wouldn't be six of them, not to mention that the math used for them is preposterous, or that they are the farthest thing from reciprocal.

The real reason for them, however, is that the tariffs, like the executive orders which now number over 100, are the immediate strings available to our Puppet Master, which he can pull this way one day and that way another, your ever present reminder of who is in charge around here. Suck up to him and he'll make a deal.

Trump's White House laughably brags about these things.

New taxes, which is what these tariffs are, are liberating don't you see!

Our mad King Ludwig needs this constant adulation. The tyrant has desires which he can never fulfill, Plato warned us.

But of course all this can be undone by the next president, which is no way to run a country. It makes for deep institutional instability and distrust throughout the global economy, for which few can reasonably plan.

The message remains the same: Expect Kaos.

Mad King Ludwig flies into a rage all because a judge told him Nay Nay

Ordinarily after successfully pulling off such a deportation coup, which may or may not be legal, you would think Trump would be gloating, but you would be wrong.

Nothing is ever good enough. He is never satisfied. He is never secure.

"He who is the real tyrant," said Plato, "whatever men may think, is the real slave, and is obliged to practise the greatest adulation and servility, and to be the flatterer of the vilest of mankind."

"He has desires which he is utterly unable to satisfy, and has more wants than any one, and is truly poor, if you know how to inspect the whole soul of him: all his life long he is beset with fear and is full of convulsions, and distractions, even as the State which he resembles."

A purported descendant of Patrick Henry and James Madison blasted The Tyrant Trump in GA-7 townhall represented by Rich McCormick

Trump’s first weeks in office have been characterized by a string of successful Cabinet nominations and a relentless testing of executive power and governing norms. Many critics saw Trump’s social media declaration “Long live the King!’ as emblematic of that approach.

That was certainly the case when Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) — who endorsed Trump in 2024 after first supporting Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) — faced constituents at a town hall meeting in Roswell, Georgia on Thursday.

A woman named Virginia Lim prefaced her scathing question to McCormick by referencing her familial connection to the Founding Fathers — then laid into Trump:

VICTORIA LIM: Thank you so much, Congressman, for taking my question. I do so appreciate it.

I’m a direct descendant of Susanna Henry Madison, one of Patrick Henry’s younger sisters and a cousin by marriage of James Madison.

Do you know who Patrick Henry was? And James Madison, sir? (NODS)

I’m so glad to hear that. While arguing the need for the American Revolution, Patrick Henry said “A king is a tyrant. If a wrong step is made now, the Republic will be lost forever and tyranny will rise.”.

I believe you know the rest of his speech. Something about “give me liberty.”.

It’s clear from all the writings of our Founding Fathers that our great Republic was never meant to be ruled by a dictator, nor a king.

(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)

So. So you can imagine my shock and pure horror when I woke up to find that our president had given himself unprecedented executive powers, and then, within a few days, named himself King to his followers. (APPLAUSE).

Tyranny. Tyranny—!

MODERATOR: Virginia. Do you have a question for the congressman?

VICTORIA LIM: I do, I do. Thank you. Tyranny is rising in the white House, and a man has declared himself our king. So I would like to know. Rather the people would like to know what you, congressman, and your fellow congressman are going to do to rein in the megalomaniac in the White House.

(CROWD STANDS AND CHEERS).

AUDIENCE MEMBER: Thank you!

REP. RICH MCCORMICK: Thank you. I’m not going to give you my best Foghorn Leghorn response to that. But what I was — so you can go ahead and sit down — thank you.

The — when you talk about tyranny, when you talk about presidential power, I remember having the same discussion with Republicans when Biden was elected.

(JEERING).

The funny thing is, the funny thing is —

(JEERING CONTINUES).

The funny thing is, you’re sitting here in your body, you would probably say those January 6ers who were yelling just as loud as you, who were upset just like you, and not listen —

(INDISTINCT SHOUTING)

MODERATOR: Hey, hey, hey, let’s restore some order! Let’s restore some order! Hey hey hey, let’s restore some order!

REP. RICH MCCORMICK: So yelling, yelling at me is not going to get any answer, okay? Hey, like I said, like I said, we’re not going to give order right now.

MODERATOR: Let’s get through this. Congressman.

AUDIENCE: Shame! Shame! Shame! Shame!

REP. RICH MCCORMICK: I’ve seen Game of Thrones, too. Thank you.

Eventually, McCormick cited the so-called REINS Act, claiming it “reins in executive power” — but the bill actually has to do with rule-making at federal agencies.

The cash consumer will pay the cost of the Trump-Musk penny-elimination gambit: Is it the harbinger of a coming cashless tyranny?

"The Amish have been galvanised to head to the polls and turn the battle ground red."

The little guy voted for Trump, so naturally Trump is going to screw the little guy, the Amish in particular.

And not mentioned in the story below is the deep resistance to eliminating cash among the denizens of America's survivalist communities. They see this as a control issue, and a potential threat to freedom because you control the cash in your pocket, but not the digital currency in your account. Cross the authorities somehow, and your account can be wiped out with a keystroke.

We already have experienced lawful gun owners and gun businesses being de-banked over gun ownership, among other culture war issues contested by liberal elites using economic coercion.

Meanwhile The UniParty has devalued the 1913 dollar to three cents. If you've only got one, eliminating the penny means you've now got bupkis.

How does the observation go? It's always the Republicans who actually advance the liberalism which the people resist when the Democrats are in control.

Every. Damn. Time.

To the extent rounding up occurs more frequently than rounding down, cash consumers would be paying the price for the cost efficiency Trump and Musk are seeking, said Ajay Patel, a professor of finance at Wake Forest University School of Business. ...

. . . people at the bottom of the economic ladder will probably feel the penny pinch the most.

“The individuals paying for this benefit will be those who purchase products and services using cash and will continue to do so going forward because they are either unbanked or unable to access debit or credit cards or a digital wallet,” Patel said. ...

Laura Maike, of Burton, Ohio, notes that the Amish will feel the pinch right now.

“Here in Northeast Ohio’s Amish country, we still use pennies regularly,” Maike said of her area, which includes thousands of generally cash-using Amish. “How would this work for cash-only transactions? It would be impossible to give exact change as the purchaser or seller.”

More.

Mad King Ludwig bans the penny

Congress has the exclusive power to coin money and regulate its value, not the president, according to the US Constitution.

But since all coin and currency is worthless, thanks to Congress, does it really matter anymore?

The thieving Roman emperors infamously diluted the value of coinage from time to time by reducing the amount of gold and silver contained in the coins.

Since we had real money once upon a time, our founders didn't want one man potentially messing with the money, so they put Congress in charge, because they really did think a president could become a tyrant.

But our perfect, holy founders who supposedly thought of everything never anticipated that the Congress itself would become the thieving bastards, the naifs.

The 1913 dollar is now worth three measly cents, but even that Mad King Ludwig will now take away.

If we were a free people, we wouldn't put up with this.

The principle remains, even if the circumstances have changed.

Trump takes aim at ‘wasteful’ government spending by ordering end to penny production

But at least one analyst on Wall Street expects that the penny’s days are numbered. TD Cowen’s Jaret Seiberg said the halt will [be] likely to pass judicial review, leading to a shortage in the coin.

“We believe this order would survive judicial review, which is why this is likely to occur,” Seiberg wrote on Monday. “We worry about this leading to a shortage of pennies, which could force merchants to pay banks more for coins. It also adds legal risk for merchants and banks. That could create the crisis needed to force Congress to act.”

Anarcho-tyranny in Pacific Palisades Fire: No water in some fire hydrants

From the Los Angeles Times here:

“There’s no water in the fire hydrants,” Caruso said. “The firefighters are there [in the neighborhood], and there’s nothing they can do — we’ve got neighborhoods burning, homes burning, and businesses burning. ... It should never happen.”

A spokesman for the Department of Water and Power acknowledged reports of diminished water flow from hydrants but did not have details on the number of hydrants without water or the scale of the issue.

In a statement, the DWP said water crews were working in the neighborhood “to ensure the availability of water supplies.”

“This area is served by water tanks and close coordination is underway to continue supplying the area,” the DWP said in its statement.

Providing basic fire fighting resources is a bare minimum function of local government, at which this very wealthy community is obviously failing, mirroring California government's overall statewide failure to reduce wildfires.

State Farm stopped insuring roughly 30,000 homes in California in the summer of 2024, in part due to the danger to its business there from catastrophic fires in communities where multi-million dollar homes are common, and too commonly go up in smoke.

You'd cut your losses, too, if you suspected the locals had become as hopelessly bad as the one party state under Gavin Newsom.
