Federal law prohibits employers from knowingly hiring an unauthorized immigrant and from employing someone without work authorization. Yet a growing network of nonprofits and universities is teaching the illegal alien community exactly how to get around the law, one Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) at a time.

The IRS only cares about collecting taxes—illegal or not. It all starts with the ITIN.

Immigrants Rising, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is one of several organizations Restoration News has uncovered that openly help undocumented immigrants bypass work authorization requirements. It is just one example in our investigative series on the topic.

... Even though foreigners should not work in the United States without work authorization, an ITIN can be used to obtain an Employer Identification Number (EIN) to establish a business. The IRS is aware of this workaround—and looks away.

 

... The IRS states that an ITIN does not “authorize you to work legally in the U.S.” However, you can “apply for an ITIN regardless of immigration status.” Uncle Sam wants its tax money, even if the employment violates work authorization laws.

 

The process is severely flawed. Lawful immigrants who follow the lengthy and costly process to come to America legally often still must wait in line to receive proper work authorization. Yet the IRS turns a blind eye to illegal aliens who circumvent the law to take jobs away from legal migrants and citizens.

 

The IRS allows third-party groups known as Certifying Acceptance Agents (CAAs) to process paperwork and certify the identities of applicants to obtain an ITIN. Nearly anyone can become a CAA—just complete the online training, apply, and wait for approval. Illegal aliens can then go to a CAA to obtain an ITIN without ever having to interact directly with the IRS. A student identification card (for individuals under age 24), a foreign driver’s license, and a foreign birth certificate are acceptable documents to verify a person’s identity for an ITIN. No need to prove legal status, and those documents don’t have to be sent to the IRS. They remain with the CAA.

 

... The IRS should stop treating tax compliance as a substitute for legal status. And the Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department should start asking why elite universities and tax-exempt organizations are functioning as distribution channels for a workaround to federal law.

The foreign born population in August 2026 is virtually unchanged from October 2024. 

 

 

One reason I don't trust the Trump Administration's illegal immigrant statistics is that we didn't have the biggest increase to the foreign born population until January 2025 when Trump & Co. took charge of the data

 The percent increase to the foreign born population was 3.27% in January 2025, the highest on record.

That's a Trump Administration figure which it is more than happy to blame on Biden, but it came out under Trump's watch in February 2025, not under Biden.

It would be to Trump's advantage to exaggerate the problem on the front end to claim larger effects on the back end.

But it makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE that there would be the biggest surge of immigrants into the country ever just as their biggest enemy ever is about to take office.

Meanwhile the biggest percentage declines to foreign born population came in June 2023 and April 2024, 1.91% and 1.92% respectively, when Biden was still president.

We don't interpret that as evidence of a non-existent Biden policy which was tough on migration.

Whatever one makes of the government data, it shows that we still have 48 million foreign born in America in July 2026, same as we did in December 2023. The figure captures both legal and illegal aliens in addition to American citizens.

The question I have is why is this all coming out one day before we get the August 2026 data?

Are they expecting bad news and trying to get out ahead of it?

Daniel Boucher was getting ready for work Monday morning when he heard what sounded like fireworks going off outside of his home near downtown Biddeford.

He rushed to the window, where he saw an SUV trying to ram a small white car in the intersection. Moments later, agents in vests stopped the car and pulled the driver out.

“He was bleeding profusely from the head,” Boucher said later Monday morning. “He was talking. He said, ‘I tried to stop.'”

Boucher watched in disbelief as the man’s legs stopped moving as he lay on the ground. He believes he watched him die. ...

After Biddeford police and an ambulance arrived, Boucher said he saw someone appear to start CPR on the driver. Boucher went out to his front door, where the ICE agent he believed fired the shots walked past him.
