The idiots at Newsweek think the House Republican majority is in peril in part because of Lori Chavez-DeRemer going to Trump's cabinet, not realizing she lost her election and is not part of the 220 equation to begin with

 Republican House Majority in Peril

The Republican wafer-thin majority in the House of Representatives is facing growing uncertainty as GOP members of Congress line up for Donald Trump's Cabinet. ...

[Victoria] Spartz's move [not to caucus with the Republicans] could throw the slim Republican majority in the House into peril amid other GOP members of the House being tapped to serve in Trump's Cabinet. ...

Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer of Oregon has also been nominated to serve as labor secretary. ...

Waltz has already submitted his resignation and, combined with Gaetz's resignation and the possibility of Spartz refusing to caucus with Republicans, as well as Stefanik and Chavez-DeRemer being confirmed to Cabinet positions, the Republican majority could collapse, jeopardizing their ability to advance Trump's agenda.

Waltz counts, Gaetz counts, and Stefanik counts, taking the 220 win down to 217 temporarily. Spartz not caucusing with the GOP creates a 216-215 GOP majority, not a 215-215 tie as Newsweek shows. Spartz remains a Republican, however, and presumably will vote with the Republicans.

The uninformed Newsweek writer is from . . . the UK lol.

And, of course, Drudge just repeats the stupidity:

Republican House Majority in Peril...

At this hour there are just three US House races which remain uncalled, with the current election at 219 GOP v 213 Democrat

GOP control of the US House at 218 would be secure, if it weren't for Trump poaching from this field to populate his government.

Not. Very. Bright.

It also tells you that the poached aren't very bright either: Stefanik, Waltz, Gaetz, and Rubio from the US Senate also.

Special elections are required for the House district vacancies. The governor of Florida can appoint Rubio's replacement, but that is only temporary.

Democrats said electing Trump would be a return to chaos.

They were correct about that.

Two House races were called overnight for the GOP, AZ-6 and CA-41, giving Republicans a 219 seat majority in the US House election with Republicans leading in an additional three races

Looks like a 222 majority is within reach, except Trump is already poaching Stefanik and Waltz, bringing the majority down to 220, at least temporarily, which is where it is at right now.

And 222 is still not guaranteed, but like a madman Trump is already counting on it. His big mouth is what usually gets him in trouble. Will his impulsiveness do it this time?

In any event, this is no red wave.

Mark Krikorian hits on the sorry truth about Trump and Elise Stefanik

MAGAworld pans Stefanik :

...

“She ties with a couple other Republicans for the worst career voting record on immigration in New York,” said Mark Krikorian, director of the anti-immigration Center on Immigration Studies, ticking off a few of her previous positions: a yes on H-2B visas, the Farm Workers Modernization Act, and the Hong Kong Refugee bill, and a no on Trump’s child border separation policies.

“Obviously, Republicans in New York are likely to be more liberal, just because that's the environment they're in,” Krikorian said. “I think everybody understands that. But even by the standards of New York state Republicans, she's bad on immigration.” ...

Krikorian, whose institute is not weighing in on the conference chair election, noted that while Cheney’s downfall was sparked by her criticism of Trump, what had truly tanked her was her ideology, bolstered by her family name: The Wyoming congresswoman’s neoconservative beliefs have no place in today’s GOP.

Stefanik’s positions weren’t much more palatable to the party base, in Krikorian’s view.

“Trump, in his gut, does think we should get out of Afghanistan, he does think there's too many illegal aliens coming over the border,” he observed. “It's not that he doesn't believe any of that stuff. It's just that he's kind of a narcissistic guy. And if people flatter him, he's for them, regardless of what they believe. And so the question is: Do you go for Trumpism? Or do you go for Trump?”

The system which protects us from tyrants has done so only because we are, when all is said and done, still loyal to it. There was never any danger of a tyranny from Trump, who was easily the weakest president in living memory.

But Trump's character is clearly of the sort Aristotle warned us about. The thing is, we do little worrying about the proliferation of wretches like Stefanik who eventually make the rise of actual tyrants, dangerous men of strong, determined, and ruthless character, more likely.

"And for this reason tyrants always love the worst of wretches, for they rejoice in being flattered, which no man of a liberal spirit will submit to; for they love the virtuous, but flatter none."

Elise Stefanik joins 33 other Republican traitors to help Democrats pass Farm Workforce Modernization Act

The roll call is here.

Among the others joining her in the infamy were Fred Upton and Devin Nunes.

The fact is no Republican had to vote for it for it to pass, so this is most definitely on them.

The bill would give green cards to undocumented farm workers, which is amnesty.

Elise Stefanik is on the side of The Body Snatchers' Donald Trump, not the one we voted for

The Trump we voted for promised a 10-point America First Plan which was ALL ABOUT IMMIGRATION, not climate, not tax cuts, not Obamacare, etc., especially ending DACA immediately by executive order and building NEW actual wall, not replacing existing with bollard fencing.

Elise Stefanik is an immigration squish, signed discharge petition in 2018 to force Republicans in Congress to compromise

Congresswoman Stefanik was one of the earliest signers of the discharge petition to force Congress to act on immigration. She previously announced that she will also support standalone legislation that addresses the separation of children and parents at our borders.
