David French was right about Trump's agreement with the terrorists in his column on March 3, 2020

There is a difference between peace and retreat. The Trump administration’s agreement with the Taliban represents a full retreat. It’s an agreement that most Republicans would deplore if a Democrat president made the deal, and they’d be right to be angry.

More

The country wasn't paying attention, however. The pandemic was all anyone could talk about.

"Washington Watcher II" distills the David French-Sohrab Ahmari kerfuffle: Immigration patriots really don’t have a dog in this fight

Because your choices are limited to Drag Queen Story Hour Conservatism or a new Catholic imperium in the Americas, which come to think of it are pretty much the same thing.

LOL: David French declares war on the mice in the walls of your country house

The idea that there are millions of alt-righters in America is preposterous. Red State's streiff in 2016 laughably came up with 1-3% of the population, as if that were a small number. But there is no way that the alt-right is as numerous as the LGBT population of the United States.

In the year 2000 the forerunner to today's alt-right, Patrick J. Buchanan, received just 0.43% of the popular vote, fewer than 500,000. And unlike David French or Richard Spencer, Pat was the likeable candidate!

David French is a Presbyterian. He has lit his hair on fire. That the recent shooters were white nationalists is kooky on its face. French is literally communicating hysteria.

Conservatism Inc. is deeply threatened by alternative ideas because it is uncertain of itself, even as alt-righter Richard Spencer is uncertain of himself. Both of them need an enemy, and both exaggerate its size.

There's more than Trump derangement syndrome afoot in the land.

NRO's David French is no conservative and no American, doesn't give a damn about us, the founders' posterity

Good Lord, Christian Nancy French, wife of David, is a small sea of confusion

French breakfast, or English?

She clearly does not understand C.S. Lewis, but no matter. The Christians don't read WaPo anyway.

The term “nationalism” carries with it ominous echoes of blood and soil, unsuitable for a nation composed of people from many different ethnicities and many different soils. ... As C.S. Lewis wrote in The Four Loves, patriotism asks “only to be let alone. It becomes militant only to protect what it loves. In any mind that has a pennyworth of imagination it produces a good attitude towards foreigners. How can I love my home without coming to realise that other men, no less rightly, love theirs? Once you have realised that Frenchmen like cafe complet just as we like bacon and eggs — why good luck to them and let them have it. The last thing we want is to make everywhere else just like our own home. It would not be home unless it were different.” ... This Sunday, it is great for Christians to show gratitude for a country that respects our liberty, but we should also extend incredible love and courtesy to people who differ from us.

Yeah, in their own countries. Yes, leave us alone! Don't come here and try to make this like your old home. If you come here you adopt our ways, our loves, our values. Otherwise, it's not really your home. Get out! This is our home. We speak English, honor the Christian God, revere the original constitution and the English common law, require self-sufficiency and self-restraint, reward individual merit, punish individual misconduct, and practice equality before the law (well, unless you're a Democrat).

She literally says in closing she's in the nation, but not of it.

No kidding.

David French and Ben Shapiro join up in NeverTrump redux, just in time for 2020

Responding to Joe Biden's announcement of his candidacy for president, Ben Shapiro oddly saw it as an opportunity to bash President Trump yesterday, laughably resurrecting the long debunked "fine people hoax" of Charlottesville to riff on Trump's weakness for reelection in 2020.

Trump's still a racist, you see.

Shapiro might as well have been speaking as a paid member of the Biden campaign. That he wasn't speaks to an uglier animus which is willing to lie in order to smear. The goal doesn't care about the facts.

David French, meanwhile, has been in Shapiro's corner of late, defending him on Twitter against recent WaPo stories ludicrously painting Shapiro as alt-right.

Now French is out in TIME, tag-teaming with Shapiro in criticism of Trump as, you guessed it, weak:

What a cohencidence!

In French's reading, Trump is weak because the Mueller report shows him not to be the alpha male he makes himself out to be. If the voters ever find out, he's finished, you see.

Leave it to the impotence of NeverTrump to fixate on fantasies and miss the real source of Trump's 2020 vulnerability.

If the public which elected Trump realizes that the border is even more wide open than it was before he was elected, that's when Trump will be finished.

But, of course, NeverTrump is just fine with wide open borders.

The public won't be hearing that from them.

Julie Kelly entertainingly calls David French's warnings about a "white supremacy surge" hysterical

Reminds me of when Ann Coulter called National Review a collection of girly-boys.

Also, nice to see some of the old Takimag commenters showing up in reply.

There Is No ‘Surge’ in White Supremacy:

So, despite the hysterical warnings from French and his collaborators in the media, there was only a small increase in hate crimes last year and those numbers dropped significantly in the first half of the year. This means there is no “surge” either in hate crimes or white supremacy. (The synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh last month singularly will change that forecast for the year. Trump also has been blamed for that massacre by French’s NR colleague, Jonah Goldberg, even though the shooter did not vote for Trump and criticized the president for being “surrounded by kikes.”)

Trannies for Kevin Williamson: National Review thinks Ta-Nehisi Coates' favorable opinion of Kevin Williamson is a good thing

David French, here:

If Ta-Nehisi Coates can see the virtues of his work, then perhaps there’s room for you [progressives] to open your minds. National Review’s loss is The Atlantic’s gain, but even more importantly, the marketplace of ideas benefits from his transition.
