Michigan House, Senate, Governor's mansion, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Supreme Court all under Democrat control for first time since 1980s

This is what happens when you get 1.8 million votes by mail: a record turnout to surpass the 2018 record turnout.

For the first time in four decades, Democrats are waking up to a state in which their party controls the House and Senate – a feat not done since the early 1980s.

More.

It takes a special kind of stupid Republicanism to screw things up this bad: libertarian Republicanism, for which Michigan is famous.

The key: legislation by referendum of the people instead of by representative government; which yielded 1) easy voting by mail, instead of on election day, for which libertarians are all-in, as they are for abortion, immigration, and free-trade, same as Democrats; and 2) "nonpartisan" redistricting.

Michigan was never a conservative state, and is finished as a Republican state.

Michigan has been irretrievably Californicated in the span of four years.

Wackadoodle progressive Democrat Walter Bujak of Kent County, Michigan, crosses over to become part of the Republican Blue Wave!

I kid you not!

If this guy wins in the Michigan Kent County Republican 21st Commissioner District race on Aug 2, I might just check in to a mental institution myself and ask Alan Bolter for help!

I believe the greatest challenge we face is unifying the citizens of both the Republican and Democratic parties. ...  It is time for Democrats to wake up and cross over to the Republican Party!

Holy cow, Republican candidate for Michigan State Senate says inflation is a good thing

If there is a bigger nincompoop running for office this year, I don't know it.

He reminds me of the ding dongs who signed Mark Dice's inflation petition back in 2009:

AMWAY's Steve Van Andel said the highlight of his entire career was China: He and AMWAY got rich as Croesus from the giant sucking sound of your jobs leaving America

Career highlight: China

When asked to share a highlight of his career, Van Andel talked of traveling with his dad to China in the early 1970s when he was in his teens.

They spent time walking around Shanghai and Beijing so the elder Van Andel could observe people.

He remembers his dad telling him he was curious about where the Amway business could go in the future.

"I'll never forget being with him and talking with him about it and then 20 years later, I remember cutting the ribbon and opening up China," Van Andel said.

China is now Amway's biggest market, generating more than one-third of its sales.

Another incompetent FBI sting operation against the vast right wing conspiracy comes a cropper in Michigan

Remember the Hutaree in 2010?

Obama's FBI tried to transform them, a bunch of yahoos living in a trailer park, into some sort of "armed revolt" against the government hot on the heels of protests after passage of Obamacare.

"Five days away from fundamentally transforming America", lol, meant sending in paid government operatives to fabricate a dangerous political threat to the nation from the right.

The m/o hasn't changed.

Now the 2020 Wolverine Watchmen Militia conspiracy to kidnap Governor Hitler has unraveled along similar lines, involving FBI infiltration with multiple actors, orchestration, and entrapment, all of which resulted in a lot of "tough talk" from the so-called conspirators, who were high on drugs and alcohol supplied by the FBI, but no planning of a mission, let alone no possession of an independent capacity to carry one out.

Two Defendants Found Not Guilty in Alleged Plot Against Whitmer

Mistrial Declared for Two Others

Meanwhile in the real world, BLM and Antifa are responsible for $2 billion in riot damage all across the fruited plain in 2020 but the authorities continue to do not one thing about any of them even as BLM leaders have misused funds they raised and lavished it on themselves.

Like many so-called January 6th insurrectionists who have been kept locked up for over a year without trial, the two who were acquitted yesterday had been kept locked up for 18 months even though they were ultimately found not guilty.

The travesty of justice continues in America, at the hands of those entrusted with it.

Abolish the FBI.

Michigan's growth of breakthrough hospitalizations and deaths through August has made it the poster child for vaccine failure as it sits atop all other states in the autumn outbreak

Aug 26: More than 20% of recent COVID cases, hospitalizations have been among Michigan’s fully vaccinated:

In the last 30 days, vaccinated individuals in Michigan have represented 23.4% cases, 28.1% of hospitalizations, and nearly 15.4% of COVID-19 deaths, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

 More

Even without reporting cases in the last two days Michigan remains #1 in the nation for daily new cases over the last two weeks.

Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties around Detroit remain ground zero for daily new cases.

The lack of reporting during Thanksgiving week is emblematic of Michigan's underlying laissez-faire attitude to life. It is under-vaccinated compared to the rest of the nation, and gave up on social distancing and masking months ago.

That's as true of its so-called conservatives as it is of its liberals, including the Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel who got ignominiously drunk in public at the Michigan football game at the end of October, sans mask.

The government we deserve!

Venezuela north: 230,000 still without power in Michigan as of Monday morning and many will be until Thursday

The massive outages seem to mostly be affecting DTE customers in the east side of the state as Consumers Energy is reporting only about 35,000 customers currently without power.

Latest estimates put more than 800,000 without electric power in immediate aftermath of Michigan storms

At one point in the immediate aftermath of Friday night and Saturday’s storms, nearly 600,000 DTE customers lost power [in Southeast Michigan]. Consumers Energy had about 67,000 homes and businesses still without power [Sunday night], compared to the 220,000 of its customers affected overall [in West Michigan]. ... DTE officials called the multiple storms one of the worst events its crews have ever dealt with. ... Since Friday, DTE says it has receive [sic] reports of more than 2,000 downed wires.

Temperatures in Grand Rapids, MI collapsed from 85 to 71 after 1:53am Saturday July 20th as storms knocked out power to thousands in West Michigan

The Sams Club in Kentwood lost power in the early morning storm, closing down the store and gas station for the day Saturday, which is quite unusual.

Workers there were observed after 1:00pm at the rear of the building tossing no longer refrigerated and frozen foods.

Consumers Energy crews were observed near the intersection with the store attempting to restore power in the sweltering heat.

The heat index not much later soared to 108 by 2:53pm.

A second round of storms after 4:00pm Saturday crashed actual air temperatures from 89 to 74, complicating the on-going power restoration efforts.

While there are outages across the state, the Southeast Side of Michigan has the highest concentration. DTE Energy this morning said 375,000 of its customers remain without electricity after what it called the “worst storm” its line workers have dealt with this year.

" ... The weather event downed 1,100 power lines, making this the worst storm our region has experienced this year and one of the largest since the March 2017 wind storm," the utility said. ...

In West Michigan and the central part of the state, Consumers Energy was reporting about 122,000 customers without power today. Great Lakes Energy added to the tally with nearly 5,000 outages, mostly in Lake, Oceana and Osceola counties. ...

While there were strong wind gusts across the Lower Peninsula on Saturday, the most damaging happened in the areas of Kent and Ottawa counties [in West Michigan], the National Weather Service said. The damaging winds that took the house apart in the Jenison area were described as a “microburst.”

Insane new Democrat governor of Michigan wants to raise regressive gasoline tax to highest in the nation

According to The Tax Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit focused on tax policy, Michigan has the sixth highest gasoline tax nationally at 44.13 cents per gallon. The governor’s proposed 45-cent increase would push Michigan into the top spot, overtaking Pennsylvania’s current high of 58.7 cents per gallon.

Did Michigan's Consumers Energy lose 50 billion cf in the compressor fire this week?

On Wednesday the utility was reported to have 350 billion cubic feet of natural gas in storage. Tonight it is reported that the utility has 300 billion cubic feet, 50 billion cubic feet less than a day before. That would mean 14% of its storage went up in flames in the fire in Macomb County.

No one was bright enough at today's press briefing to ask about this.

This was a catastrophic loss of capacity during the most severe cold snap in twenty-five years, rescued only by the efforts of consumers and businesses who voluntarily cut their consumption while the utility scrambled to bring reserve fields on line.

You can turn your heat back up after midnight, Consumers Energy says:

The Jackson-based utility has 300 billion cubic feet of natural gas in storage across Michigan. On Wednesday, the company broke a record, needing 3.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

How much natural gas does Consumers Energy have for its customers in west Michigan?

Consumers has 15 storage fields with 350 billion cubic feet of natural gas storage, [Consumers Vice President Garrick] Rochow said.

"There's not only a large supply to meet our customers' needs for the entire winter, but there's the ability to pull even more gas into state through the pipeline system," Rochow said. "So there is no risk from a long-term reserve perspective."

The utility has 1.8 million business and residential natural gas customers.

Here's the math (I think):

350 billion cubic feet of natural gas = 350 trillion btu (1 billion cf = 1 trillion btu);

I use roughly 156 million natural gas btu per year, on average, in my single family household (approximately 150,000 cf X 1.037 million btu per 1000 cf.);

If all Consumers' customers were like me, which they aren't, Consumers Energy could supply 2.24 million such households for one year before needing to resupply the storage fields, or 59% of Michigan's households.

Michigan has roughly 3.8 million households X 2.55 people per household = 9.7 million. Estimated population in 2017 was just under 10 million.

Supplying electricity is a completely separate issue.

Michigan residents asked to keep thermostats no higher than 65F through Friday evening during cold snap

A Wednesday night plea for customers to turn their heat down made an impact, [Consumers Energy spokesman Brian] Wheeler said.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer took to Facebook to ask Michiganders to reduce usage and an emergency alert was sent to cellphones.

Residents should keep thermostats down through the end of the day Friday, officials said, to avoid the possibility of service interruptions.

Hired for his "passion for literacy", Caledonia, Michigan high school principal uses "me" when he means "I"

The outgoing interim principal was quoted here about the new hire in 2015:

"Brady [Lake] has created a reputation for being a strong instruction [sic] leader that challenges students and staff alike to reach their full potential. He has a passion for literacy and has worked very hard to implement new instructional [!] models that benefit students," Kingsbury said.

The Sun and News for Saturday, May 19, 2018, however, quotes Lake recently thusly:

"I do not want the board, or anybody, to think that me as an administrator am not 100 percent behind Dr. Martin."

They like to say that they pursue excellence in the school district, it's just that they haven't quite caught up to it yet.

Mlive: 800,000 lost power in Michigan on Wednesday, two days later more than 615,000 still in the dark

Of those still without power, 515,000 are served by DTE Energy, 100,000 by Consumers Energy.

The story is here.

Trump admitted in Grand Rapids Thank You Rally on Friday that low turnout [for Hillary] helped him win

Trump, quoted here:

"The African American community was great to us," Trump said. "They came through bigly." ... "If they had any doubt, they didn't vote," Trump said. "And that was almost as good. Because a bunch of people didn't show up, because they felt good about me." ... But with lower voter turnout in many urban areas, where there are more concentrated populations of African Americans, and high turnout in rural areas, the numbers would tend to support his claim.

Trump appoints Kasich supporter Betsy DeVos to Education Secretary: She'll promote Common Core, not end it

This appointment is a liberal disaster masquerading as a conservative.

Don't expect this federal department to be closed under Donald Trump, who breaks a campaign promise to end common core with this appointment.

Pussy alert: Guess who I bumped into in the grocery store at 5:30 going into the olives aisle?

Joey Ramone grabs some pussy
My prick congressman, Justin Amash, another Republican member of the establishment who won't be voting for Donald Trump. Never met him before. He's what Doctor Demento would call a pencil-necked geek. If he had had some hair and dressed in a leather biker jacket he could have passed for Joey Ramone in those jeans and T-shirt I saw him wearing tonight, but no such luck.

I guess the servants had the night off and Justin had to shop for himself.

Yeah, I was in a hurry to shop for dinner and get home and make it, so we had no time to exchange unpleasantries.

Needless to say I won't be voting for that asshole, just to return the favor.

Go Trump!

And Joey is dead. Long live Joey.
