It turns out that former S&P Sovereign Ratings Committee Chair John B. Chambers, who presided over the AAA downgrade in 2011, is a partisan wackadoodle

 Here commenting about today:

“The external position is about the same, but I think the governance has weakened and the fractiousness of the political settings is much worse, and that has led to government shutdowns, it’s led to fears that the government might default on its debt because of the debt ceiling, and it’s led to a failed coup d’état on the 6th [of] January, 2021.”

And here a couple years ago:

"I don’t think the chance of a default because of a debt ceiling is that high as long as the Democrats control both Congress and the White House, that won’t always been the case. That could reemerge."

 Because, this:

The Wall Street bean counter who trashed America’s global credit reputation is a New Yorker who never studied economics, majored in literature and philosophy, and has a master’s in English lit. ...

Chambers grew up outside Kansas City, Kan., and went to liberal Grinnell College in Iowa, where he was a star on the swim team, ranking eighth in school history in the 1,000-meter freestyle. After graduating in 1977 with a bachelor of arts in literature and philosophy, he went Ivy League, enrolling at Columbia University, where he got a master’s degree in English literature.  ...

S&P was found to have made an estimated $2 trillion error in its 10-year deficit projection but brushed that aside, citing instability in Washington and the fact that the deficit-reduction cuts fell short of S&P’s recommended $4 trillion.

The Hunter Biden special prosecutor, David Weiss, is the Delaware US Attorney appointed by Trump who signed off on the softball agreement thrown out by the judge in the first place

Merrick Garland's evil genius:

Appoint a screw-up appointed by Trump to place him and the Hunter investigation off the political stage at the Republican House hearings, and hope Weiss keeps screwing up.

Weiss has long maintained that Garland hamstrung his investigation of Hunter Biden, but on the other hand Weiss let both Lesley Wolf and long time close Biden family operative Alexander Mackler work in his office to deflect the heat on Hunter Biden according to IRS whistleblowers, which just goes to show that a poor appointment is a poor appointment. In addition to going soft on Hunter Biden, the plea agreement Weiss originally negotiated with Hunter Biden gave him a get out of jail free card.

How did Weiss miss that and the judge didn't?

Judge Noreika specifically balked at that on July 26th, contrary to what most drive-by media want you to think the blowup of the agreement was about:

However, near the end of the diversionary agreement was a paragraph reading, in part, “The United States agrees not to criminally prosecute Biden, outside of the terms of this Agreement, for any federal crimes” committed by the first son for which the statute of limitations had not already expired. ... US District Judge Maryellen Noreika smelled a rat, complaining that she was not given a copy of the crucial paragraph until just before the hearing began.

Expect nothing satisfactory from Weiss' investigation going forward.

Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis' natural constituency continues to flex its muscles

Anheuser-Bush U.S. Profits Down 30% After Dylan Mulvaney Fiasco :

Anheuser-Busch InBev felt the sting of the Bud Light boycott, reporting a 10.5% drop in revenue and a nearly 30% plunge in core profit in the US during the second quarter — and has lost nearly $40 billion in value.

Yet the Belgian-based beer giant company continued to bury its head over the ill-fated tie-up with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney that has seen Bud Light on the precipice of losing its two-decade reign as the top-selling brand in the US.

The biggest turd at the Department of Justice is Merrick Garland

When Obama nominated that guy for the Supreme Court, it was like throwing a Molotov Cocktail at it.

The federal prosecutor tasked with investigating Hunter Biden told at least six witnesses last year that he lacked authority to charge the first son outside Delaware and was denied special counsel status, according to an IRS whistleblower — and now the House Judiciary Committee wants to talk to them.

Delaware US Attorney David Weiss made the shocking disclosure at an Oct. 7, 2022, meeting with top IRS and FBI officials — contradicting sworn testimony from Attorney General Merrick Garland, IRS supervisory agent Gary Shapley told the House Ways and Means Committee last month. ...

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Sunday that Republicans will launch an impeachment inquiry into Garland if Shapley’s account is corroborated.

IRS whistleblower says FBI confirmed authenticity of Hunter Biden laptop in November 2019, almost one year before New York Post laptop story

“In October 2019, the FBI became aware that a repair shop had a laptop allegedly belonging to Hunter Biden and that the laptop might contain evidence of a crime. The FBI verified its authenticity in November of 2019 by matching the device number against Hunter Biden’s Apple iCloud ID,” Shapley said.

The laptop’s contents linked Joe Biden to his son’s dealings, including in China and Ukraine — contradicting his public claims he never discussed business with his son Hunter or brother James Biden.

Despite the FBI’s internal corroboration, 51 former US intelligence agency leaders signed a pre-election letter saying that the laptop had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” ...

But behind the scenes, “when the FBI took possession of the device in December 2019, they notified the IRS that it likely contained evidence of tax crimes,” Shapley said.

Shapley, who has worked at the tax agency for 14 years, supervised a 12-person team that determined Hunter Biden had failed to pay $2.2 million on $8.3 million in income earned between 2014 and 2019 from foreign countries where his father held sway as vice president, such as China, Romania and Ukraine.

The case was resolved Tuesday with the announcement of a probation-only plea deal with the first son, despite investigators attempting to recommend felonies, Shapley and another IRS whistleblower told the committee.

On October 19, 2020 — the same date the “spies who lie” letter was fed to Politico — Shapley said he emailed Delaware Assistant US Attorney Lesley Wolf to tell her: “We need to talk about the computer.”

Planet of the Apes, here we come

NYC sinking under weight of its buildings...

Trump predicated his entire 2016 campaign on attacking the deep state, the Bush GOP, and Hillary, so he should have been ready to have ZERO allies anywhere, but was not

Why anyone remains indignant about this, like Goodwin, is beyond me.

A presidential campaign in the US is normally a war, between the two parties. Turning it into a multi-front war, however, as Trump did, was pure hubris on his part.

His catastrophic record of appointments simply amplifies the point.

Trump didn't bring with him into government his own army, let alone get the loyalty of the GOP army he had attacked relentlessly for 18 months. NeverTrump didn't materialize out of thin air. Getting anything accomplished in Washington with your side on your side is hard enough. Trump didn't have even that.

Trump narrowly won the battle of 2016, but utterly lost the war, because he was unprepared.

Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?  Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

LOL, 73-year old tranny calls 26-year old tranny fringe, apparently because of the bulge

The beef has been simmering for months and began long before Mulvaney’s string of brand-name endorsement deals. In October 2022, Jenner took issue with Mulvaney’s campaign to “normalize the bulge” — a reference to “women” who have male genitalia. “Dylan …congrats you’re trans with a penis,” Jenner snapped in a tweet.

Getting a chopadickoffame is good enough for The Post apparently, which calls Mulvaney a biological male but not Jenner.

That won't cut it for most folks, for whom the two principals and The Post make three who are all umbday in any language.

Now, our whole pot-pickled city is that campus

I gave a guy at Pret a Manger a $20 bill for an $8 cup of soup. I asked for a bag. He took the $20 and promptly forgot the soup, my change, the bag — and me. He wandered off, inexplicably waving my Andrew Jackson like a flag, until I appealed to his colleagues.

I haven’t seen so much pot-induced lethargy since my Vietnam-era college days, when so many fellow students were high that their panicked weed-flushing during a rumored police raid overwhelmed the campus pipes.

Ron DeSantis missteps, tries to weasel out of his characterization of the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a "territorial dispute"

One message for Tucker Carlson viewers, another for "neocons".

But trying to thread that needle is a fool's errand.

Ron DeSantis obviously isn't ready for this yet. No one thinks any part of Ukraine is Russian territory, especially since Russia agreed to the new borders in the 1994 Budapest Memorandum.

DeSantis could elevate himself by pointing out that Ukraine also pledged itself to neutrality in that agreement, and that Ukraine should return to that position instead of seeking EU and NATO membership.

Unfortunately, it appears that DeSantis, and the rest of the field, needs to let Trump become the candidate and lose again in order to cleanse the GOP of Trump once and for all.

DeSantis would be better positioned for 2028 anyway, when the Russia-Ukraine conflict enters its sixth year, at which time he can better Monday morning quarterback the whole thing. He will turn 50 in 2028. He has time. He needs time.

'Well, I think it's been mischaracterized. Obviously, Russia invaded — that was wrong. They invaded Crimea and took that in 2014 — That was wrong,' DeSantis told Piers Morgan in an interview more than a week after his initial comments. ...

'What I'm referring to is where the fighting is going on now which is that eastern border region Donbas, and then Crimea, and you have a situation where Russia has had that. I don't think legitimately but they had,' he said.

Piers Morgan interviews Ron DeSantis

I asked him if he was familiar with the story of Frankenstein, and he said he’d seen the movie.

“And you’re alluding to what?” he smirked, knowing full well what I was alluding to.

“Dr. Frankenstein creates a monster, then loses control of the monster, and then the monster ends up killing him,” I reminded him. “You know the parallel I’m making …”

He chuckled. “Let’s put the country first rather than worry about any personalities or any type of individual … at the end of the day, I’m a vessel for the aspirations of the people I represent. It’s not about me — as Ronald Reagan said, ‘There’s no limit to what you can accomplish if you don’t care who gets the credit.’ ”

“That’s true,” I replied, “but you’re up against somebody who definitely cares who gets the credit, and who’s desperate to want to win back the White House.”

Classified documents found in Biden's garage on Dec 20

... a small number of additional Obama-Biden Administration records with classified markings were found in the President’s Wilmington residence garage. One document consisting of one page was discovered in an adjacent room.

Story here.

These document eruptions aren't as funny as Bill Clinton's bimbo eruptions.

America in decline.
