TSA Operation VIPR Searches Cars and Trucks at Random at Port of Brownsville, TX

Mother Jones is warning here of expanded Operation VIPR searches to come at train and subway stations, and ferry and bus terminals as TSA seeks expanded funding to add 12 VIPR teams to 25 existing units which already conduct 8,000 checks a year.

If they're doing that many already and we have to rely on stupid stories like this to learn about it, you know that the sheeple of the United States are just mutely complying, as they do at airports.

Now You Know Why The Dept. of Education Wanted to Procure Shotguns

The "federal business opportunity" placed here on March 8, 2010 was for 27 shotguns for the Dept. of Education.

They probably used them in the recent raid reported here, smashing down a family's door at six in the morning, looking for payment on delinquent student loans.

There's an old saying that if you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have them.

Shotguns with barrels less than 18 inches long are outlawed. That's why Obama's fascist police state thugs from the Department of Education procured shotguns with 14" barrels.

Think of it as close quarters tutoring.

As we reported here, the IRS got some too, for close quarters audits, and ObamaCare insurance compliance.

Maryland Transit Admin. Officers Illegally Detain Man, Demand ID

And did so citing the Patriot Act, as reported here:

“Listen, listen to what I’m saying. The Patriot Act says that critical infrastructure, trains, train stations, all those things require certain oversight to take pictures, whether you say they are for personal use or whatever, that’s your story,” the officer said.

“So why don’t you have any signs posted to say I cannot take pictures?” Fussell said.

“Our officers have become very sensitive post 9/11 and we’re trying to see that they understand our passengers and citizens also have a right to take pictures,” Wells said.

The officer eventually threatened to take Fussell into custody.

“Do you have Maryland state identification on you?” the officer asked.

“I am not committing a crime,” Fussell said.

“Sir, I’m going to ask you one last time, then I’m going to take you into custody.  Do we understand each other?” the officer said.

FDIC Rewards Banks Which Themselves Violate Regulatory Guidelines

Richard Suttmeier noted here on February 22 that three banks which acquired the assets of failed banks on Friday, February 18, 2011, are themselves overexposed to construction and development loans or commercial real estate loans, or both:

Three of the banks that acquired the assets of Friday’s failed banks were also in violation of the regulatory guidelines for exposures of risk-based capital to construction and development loans and to commercial real estate loans. SCBT National Association (SCBT) has risk ratios of 145% for C and D loans and 423.7% for CRE loans that are 89.3% funded. Bank of Marin (BMRC) has a risk ratio of 67.4% for C and D loans, which is fine, but has a 485.2% exposure for CRE loans with a loan pipeline that’s 78.7% funded. First California Bank (FCAL) has a risk ratio of 41.5% for C and D loans, which is fine, but has a 358.2% exposure to CRE loans with a loan pipeline of 86.9%. ValuEngine rates each of these banks a Hold. The FDIC policy of rewarding banks with overexposures to real estate loans is deciding which banks fail and which banks survive, which is wrong.

Bush's DHS Planned to Test Mobile Scanning of Pedestrians

The creeping American fascist police state may have begun in earnest under Bush, but Obama is doing nothing to stop it. There are mobile scanning vans in the possession of the federal government right now. And you'd know nothing about it from Obama, either, but for a Freedom of Information Act request by EPIC.

Newly uncovered documents show that as early as 2006, the Department of Homeland Security has been planning pilot programs to deploy mobile scanning units that can be set up at public events and in train stations, along with mobile x-ray vans capable of scanning pedestrians on city streets.

The non-profit Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) on Wednesday published documents it obtained from the Department of Homeland Security showing that from 2006 to 2008 the agency planned a study of new anti-terrorism technologies that EPIC believes raise serious privacy concerns. ...

“When you’re out walking on the street, it’s not acceptable for an officer to come up and search your bag without probable cause or consent. ... This is the digital equivalent” [said an attorney for EPIC]. ...

[S]ecurity contractor American Sciences & Engineering ... sold more than 500 of its backscatter x-ray vans to governments around the world, including some deployed in the US. Those vans are capable of scanning people, the inside of cars and even  the internals of some buildings while rolling down public streets. ... [T]he van scans do penetrate clothing, and EPIC president Marc Rotenberg called them “one of the most intrusive technologies conceivable.”

For a guy who won't disclose any of his academic or medical records, Obama sure does think he has the right to invade your privacy, against your will and without your knowledge.

Federal Reserve Arrogates Power in Third Mandate

The financial blogs are all abuzz over Ben Bernanke's comments last week in which he matter of factly points to a rising stock market as proof that purchase of treasuries by the Fed is helping the economy.

James Saft for Reuters is the latest to comment on the remark by Bernanke:

“Our policies have contributed to a stronger stock market, just as they did in March of 2009, when we did the last iteration (of quantitative easing). The S and P 500 is up about 20 percent plus and the Russell 2000 is up 30 pct plus.” ...

While we have known for months that the Fed was targeting asset prices with QE, it really is shocking to hear it enunciated so clearly. ...

The Federal Reserve is deeply compromised by doing this; it is two thirds of the way down a slippery slope and the mud is starting to fall from above.

This describes what is just the flip side of the growing American fascist police state under Obama's Department of Homeland Security. Call it Corporatism if you wish. State Capitalism if you must. The plain fact is we have good old fashioned National Socialism, and its scapegoats are the so-called right wing extremists, the new Jews. The black is calling the kettle pot.

The difference this time is we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.

Newly elected Republican Billy Long, MO-7, is going after a political opponent in his home district, a conservative blogger no less, named Clay Bowler, aka Bungalow Bill.

Looks like one hell of an abuse of federal power to me, trying to squelch a constituent's freedom of speech, intimidate him, and reduce him to servility while they go about their business of picking our pockets clean and shoveling the shit down our throats.

The local sheriff told KSRP that Capitol police are actively soliciting the names of possible threats from members of Congress in the wake of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords’s assassination attempt. And he admitted there are more names his office is looking into — names that came from Long.

We Have Created a Police State Monster in the Name of Homeland Security

A vast network of "fusion centers" in every state in America now routinely develops data bases containing centralized data files about Americans, their communications and their movements, who do such innocent things as gather for a ferry ride and take pictures but which some snitch reported as "suspicious."

From today's disturbing 8-page Washington Post story:

The vast majority of fusion centers across the country have transformed themselves into analytical hubs for all crimes and are using federal grants, handed out in the name of homeland security, to combat everyday offenses.

This is happening because, after 9/11, local law enforcement groups did what every agency and private company did in Top Secret America: They followed the money.

Strict Control on Internal Travel The Hallmark of a Police State

It starts under the appearance of protecting the public, until the public becomes the enemy and the protection becomes tyranny.
