WHO strongly recommends Paxlovid after two trials show it reduced risk of hospitalization for Covid by 85%

US pharma giant Pfizer's combination of nirmatrelvir and ritonavir was the "superior choice" of treatment for unvaccinated, elderly or immunocompromised people with Covid, the WHO's experts said in the BMJ medical journal.

Drudge is promoting Putin analysis by two women who spew psychobabble and illogic

Fiona Hill at Politico https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/02/28/world-war-iii-already-there-00012340

and Amy Knight at The Daily Beast https://news.yahoo.com/russian-people-may-starting-think-092222195.html .

Fiona Hill can't make up her mind: "Putin is increasingly operating emotionally" but "there's been a logical, methodical plan that goes back a very long way".  Then she takes it all back at the end and says Putin didn't "initially set off to do all of this" despite the plan that goes back a very long way but his "feelings of loss, they've all been there" since the dissolution of the USSR, so he is operating emotionally.

Got it?

Amy Knight is similarly confused: "Hitler and Stalin were crazy by any psychiatric standard" but "Khrushchev—though volatile and impulsive—was apparently a rational actor, not consumed by the historical grudges and the need to show off his masculine credentials that seem to obsess Putin." Except dictators are all alike: "First of all, like any dictator, Putin does not feel confident of his hold on power".

Meanwhile the Russian people are just mind-numbed robots according to Amy, but they are our only hope: "Russians are conditioned to say they approve of their leader when there is no alternative" you see, but "hopefully, Russians themselves will take action and stop their leader".

And to underscore Amy's illogic, even though she references Putin's insane nuclear threat involving "consequences we have never seen in our entire history" which were made as the invasion began, somehow it was the subsequent "Ukrainian resistance stronger than expected" and crippling "Western sanctions" which are "probably why Putin resorted to the insanity of his nuclear threat".

The State's jackboots prepare to crush the COVID protest in Wellington, New Zealand just as they did in Ottawa, Canada

New Zealand authorities have also been in contact with their counterparts in Ottawa, where police in riot gear dislodged the trucker protest over the weekend after more than three weeks.

Democrats won control of all the important levers of federal government in 2020, but "democracy is on life support"

I'll say.

Thursday, January 6, 2022

LOL, Democrats run both houses of Congress and own The White House but Carter and Obama both say democracy at risk

Democrats are hostile to democracy. It keeps them from imposing their will.

Suddenly 25% of C19 victims in Michigan are vaccinated, but WaPo won't say it that way

The unvaccinated made up about three-quarters of cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the 30 days ending Nov. 5, according to the state health department. About 54% of Michiganders are fully vaccinated, trailing the national figure of 59%.

More

About? Sounds like it could be fewer than 75% unvaccinated, which would mean the vaccinated are more than 25%.

And why conflate cases, hospitalizations and deaths that way?

Because it's WaPo, that's why.

WaPo finds one sucka in Michigan to say how bad C19 hospitalizations are when 84% of beds statewide are occupied by non-COVID patients

"We don't have a darker color," said Darryl Elmouchi, president of Spectrum Health West Michigan. "So if we're red now, what are we in two weeks?" ...

Spectrum reported more than 370 people hospitalized with covid last week. The system has converted floors and tripled its intensive care unit space, yet there are still patients waiting for beds. Conference space and shared workspaces have been identified for conversion if the surge continues as expected. Elmouchi described the situation as "almost unmanageable."

More

The third graph shows 16% of Michigan hospital beds occupied by COVID patients right now.

Who's in the other 84%?

The way you manage a real emergency is to stop filling beds with people getting elective procedures. That they aren't doing this in general tells you they are exaggerating.

COVID patients don't make the hospitals any money. That's the real reason they are complaining. The COVID pandemic cuts into the hospitals' bottom line.

You should see the outpatient eye surgery operation at Grand Rapids Ophthalmology lately. They herd them in and out like cattle, performing cataract surgeries like crazy. The pandemic isn't stopping them one bit.

They've had plenty of time to prepare for this inevitable seasonal wave, but instead they placed their faith in a vaccine which didn't stop the spread. Big Pharma, Big Healthcare, and Big Fauci make suckers of us all:

At this point in the pandemic, months after the shots became widely available, the state's health-care workers expected to see occasional ebbs and flows in case numbers. But not at this level.

"I think all of us had hoped that with relatively reasonable vaccination rates - and a year-plus under our belt - we would not get another surge like this," Elmouchi said.

How much you wanna bet our own anti-Trump CIA fed China the bogus intel of an impending attack?

In mid-October 2020, top Pentagon officials grew concerned about intelligence they'd seen. It showed the Chinese were consuming their own intelligence that had made them concerned about the possibility of a surprise U.S. strike against China, three sources familiar with the situation tell Axios.

Taliban blunders story by NBC is complete rubbish designed to absolve the Taliban: What the Taliban did was intentional and precisely gives them the cover these naive reporters bought hook, line and sinker

In their push to retake Afghanistan, the Taliban made the security situation much more precarious by breaking prisoners out of prisons — including hardcore fighters housed at Bagram Air Base, Taliban officials acknowledged to NBC News.

Two Taliban leaders said in an interview that their biggest blunder was “releasing thousands of prisoners, among them hardcore Islamic State commanders, master trainers and bomb-makers. They were very trained people, and they are now organizing themselves.”

The Taliban itself was never designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization, but the Haqqani network, which has close ties to Al Qaeda and Pakistani intelligence, has long held that distinction.

The idea that the Taliban is not a terror organization is a lie, a fiction maintained by our lunatic US State Department and its friends in the press.

White House: Yes, The Taliban Is a Terrorist Organization

GOP accuse Obama of "negotiating with terrorists," WH says Bergdahl was POW.

But Tuesday White House National Security Council spokesperson Caitlin Hayden noted that the Taliban was added to the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT) by executive order in July 2002, even if it is not listed as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the State Department. Either designation triggers asset freezes, according to the State Department, though they can differ on other restrictions imposed on the target organization. The Treasury Department told ABC News the Taliban is still on their SDGT list.

Trump is just awful: Supports deal giving Federal workers 12 weeks PAID family leave

Making the swamp stronger. Spending money we don't have.

What a joke this guy is.

Government of Javanka, by Javanka and for Javanka.

The must-pass bill includes a provision that would allow more than 2 million federal government workers to take paid leave to care for a new baby or for an adopted child. Parental leave was a priority for high-ranking Democrats, including Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The provision is a victory for federal workers, who would face benefit cuts under the Trump administration’s budget submission. Under the current federal law, civilian workers are eligible for 12 weeks of unpaid leave.

Money in politics: Democrats spent $14.2 million per seat on average in the ten costliest US House races

And your average US Senate win just recently cost only $10 million (every six years, not every two).

For jobs which pay only $174,000 a year.

There's something funny going on here, Lucy.

Democrats and their allies in the 10 costliest House races spent $142 million to Republicans' $96 million, Reuters' analysis found.

America is a country full of addictive drug users: 92 million opioid users in 2015, 2 million abusers

From the story here:

"A very large proportion and large number of adults use these medications in a given year," said study author Dr. Wilson Compton, deputy director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse in Bethesda, Maryland. "I was still a bit surprised that 38 percent or about 92 million people used prescription opioids in 2015."

No surprise: National Health Interview Survey finds just 2.4% of respondents, WHO WERE MUCH SICKER ON AVERAGE, were lesbian, gay and bi

Except the story never does the math to show how small a minority is LGBT, and never once mentions rampant sexually transmitted diseases among perverts because of their promiscuity, just "distress" from "discrimination" leading to increased alcohol and tobacco abuse.

Overall, 67,150 survey respondents were heterosexual, 525 lesbian, 624 gay and 515 bisexual. The average age was about 47.

Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates 25% to 28% of voters doubt Ted Cruz is eligible to be president

From the story here about the poll taken in the days leading up to last night's debate:

"A quarter of Republicans think White House hopeful Ted Cruz is disqualified to serve as U.S. president . . . Republican voters nearly mirror independents and the broader electorate in their belief that Cruz cannot hold the White House, with 27 percent of all voters and 28 percent of independents responding he should be disqualified."

Sigmar Gabriel of Germany is tracking to the right as anti-Islam sentiment grows

Sigmar Gabriel, Vice Chancellor of Germany, who appears to be coming around to Thilo Sarrazin's point of view ("If I want to hear the muezzin's call to prayer, then I'll go to the Orient"), quoted here:

"Wahhabi mosques are financed all over the world by Saudi Arabia. In Germany, many dangerous Islamists come from these communities."
