LOL WaPo: "Global warming has brought a steady increase in average temperatures"

Except it hasn't. Average temperature in Phoenix is still running 1 deg. F below normal year-to-date.

Mean average annual temperature in Phoenix is 72.2 deg. F since 1895. Year-to-date it's 72.9. In 1974, the year of its big June heat wave, it was 73.1. The hottest year ever by average temperature was six years ago, when Phoenix averaged 77.3.

WaPo didn't check apparently, or simply omitted the inconvenient data.

Same with Reno, NV and Las Vegas, NV, both of which are mentioned in the story.

Reno is running 2.8 deg. F below normal year-to-date. Las Vegas is running 2.4 deg. F below normal.

El Paso is indeed setting records, but year-to-date its average temperature is still only 1.5 deg. F above normal. Annualized it would make the top ten warmest years ever, but the year is far from over.

Either way, WaPo is simply full of it, as usual.

It's also worth mentioning the special pleading going on.

WaPo cites the June 1974 Phoenix climatological records as proof that it's hotter now than during that heat wave:

Temperatures have averaged above 101 degrees in Phoenix over the past 17 days. That is significantly hotter than another record-setting heat wave, when the city surpassed 110 degrees on 18 consecutive days in 1974. During that stretch, temperatures averaged 96.5 degrees.

The June 1974 data is the same data The Weather Gods have now declared unreliable, but WaPo wants to have it both ways when the micro-average-comparisons are convenient, you know, like Hillary or Hunter, one law for me, another for thee:

Reliable observation times are not available prior to 1982.

Donald Trump betrayed the right on immigration, and tried to on guns, twice

The New York Times, May 27, 2022, here:

Unbeknownst to the public, however, Mr. Trump again pushed inside the White House for significant new gun-control measures more than a year later, after a pair of gruesome shooting sprees that unfolded over 13 hours. Those discussions have not previously been reported. On Aug. 3, 2019, a far-right gunman killed 23 people at a Walmart store in El Paso. Early the next morning, a man shot and killed nine people outside a bar in Dayton, Ohio. Both assailants used semiautomatic rifles. At the White House the next day, Mr. Trump was so shaken by the weekend’s violence that he questioned aides about a specific potential solution and made clear he wanted to take action, according to three people present during the conversation. “What are we going to do about assault rifles?” Mr. Trump asked.

Dead white Antifa terrorists Willem Van Spronsen in Tacoma and Connor Betts in Dayton both embraced AOC's inflammatory concentration camp rhetoric

Nolte: Two Terrorists Embraced Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Concentration Camp’ Smear:

The real news is here is the establishment media’s shameless double standard. While the media are going crazy over the El Paso terrorist’s anti-Hispanic rhetoric and attempting to claim Trump was his inspiration, the very same media are dutifully covering up how two left-wing terrorists embraced Ocasio-Cortez’s inflammatory rhetoric.

Personally, I object to this kind of guilt-by-association. Watching the news media attempt to stifle free speech by connecting someone’s violence to another person’s speech is as un-American as it gets. But the media’s own rules do connect Ocasio-Cortez and two members of her Socialist Squad directly to these two terrorists.

I should add that it’s fascinating to watch the deep-in-denial media further destroy its own credibility by covering these facts up. The media know that we know the truth. The media know that the truth about Ocasio-Cortez  and these two terrorists is all over social and alternative media, but still they don’t care that we know because their partisan rage constantly overwhelms their decency and integrity.

All the media can do is rage against Trump, even with the “concentration camp” elephant in the room.

And there it is from Ruben Navarrette, in USA Today two days ago, saying Beto is a cultural appropriator

For Latinos, 'Beto' O'Rourke is just another privileged white guy trying to manipulate them:

. . . Latinos . . . refuse to go loco for Beto. They’re concerned that Robert Francis O’Rourke, 46, who on Thursday joined an already-crowded field of 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls, is trying to put one over on Latinos by tricking them into thinking he’s one of them. ... Patrick O’Rourke — Robert Francis’ father — once explained that he was the one who gave his son the nickname in the first place and the reason had a lot to do with politics, as well as geography. According to The Dallas Morning News, the patriarch reasoned that if his son ever ran for office in El Paso, the odds of being elected in that largely Mexican-American city were far greater with a name like Beto. When told of his father’s words, O’Rourke shrugged them off, calling his father “farsighted.” I’d use different words, like cynical and dishonest and manipulative.

Like all liberals, Beto O'Rourke is mistaken about human nature

"I trust the wisdom of people. And I'm confident - especially after having traveled Texas for two years - people are good, fundamentally, and if given the choice to do the right thing, they will. To do the good thing, they will," he said, referring to his unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign while giving a walking tour of El Paso and its Mexican sister city, Juarez.

People are not fundamentally good. Nor are they basically evil. Human nature is irreducibly mixed. If people were fundamentally good we wouldn't need laws or government at all, or lawyers, judges, courts and prisons. If they were basically evil the possibility that is America never would have presented itself to history, and monarchy would still be called for. America is the gift of English dissenting Protestantism.

All our political problems remain spiritual ones. There is no freedom without self-control.

If Beto O'Rourke's dental hygienist was born in El Paso, why does she have to study to become a citizen?

Diana, wearing goggles and a mask over her face, said she was born in El Paso and that her father was a U.S. citizen. She added that her mother was born in a small town in Mexico and that she herself was a permanent resident in the U.S. while studying for her American citizenship.

Like Hillary vs. Trump, Beto O'Rourke outspent Ted Cruz and lost, but some Democrats think he's their guy in 2020

But not Rahm Emanuel.

"If Beto O'Rourke wants to go and run for president, God bless him, he should put his hat in and make his case. But, he lost. You don't usually promote a loser to the top of party," Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Thursday on MSNBC, becoming the highest-profile Democrat yet to air doubts about the excitement swirling around El Paso congressman. ...

One reason Democrats see potential for O'Rourke in a crowded presidential field is that he displayed a rare gift for inspiring donors nationwide.

He smashed through all fundraising records for any Senate candidate anywhere ever. He had a $38 million haul in one three-month period alone on his way past the $70 million mark. A final post-election disclosure due next week will push the total even higher. He outspent Cruz roughly 3-1.

In Democrats' current short list for 2020 Beto runs third behind Lunchbox Joe and Bernie Sanders. Hillary's not on the list. Methinks Rahm would like to be.

Democrats in this cycle are clearly lacking the wave leadership like Rahm Emanuel once provided in 2006

Case in point, TX-23, discussed here at length by The Other McCain:

The Republican incumbent there scarcely fits the stereotype of a right-winger. Will Hurd is the only black member of the Texas GOP congressional delegation, a former CIA officer who has held the seat since 2014. The largely rural district, which stretches all the way from the suburbs of San Antonio in the east to El Paso in the west, is majority Hispanic and the congressional seat has changed hands five times between Republicans and Democrats since the 1990s. Hurd won re-election two years ago by a margin of barely 3,000 votes and was obviously a vulnerable target in this year’s midterms, but Democrats appear to have fumbled away their chance of winning in TX23 by nominating a pro-abortion Filipina lesbian as their candidate.

Gina Ortiz Jones was recruited into this campaign by Democrats at a time when feminist rage over Trump’s 2016 election was a fresh wound in the Left’s collective psyche, and it appears they didn’t bother asking whether she was a good match for the district. Jones has made a point of using her mother’s maiden name with the slogan “One of Us, Fighting For Us” in her campaign. However, she’s not Hispanic. Her mother immigrated from the Philippines and her white father (who never married her mother) was a drug addict. While she used “Ortiz” to play the identity-politics game with Texas voters, she used a similar message to solicit support nationally from Trump-haters, promising to become the “first Filipina-American and first out-lesbian to represent Texas in Congress, and she’ll be the first woman to represent her district.” She was endorsed by all the usual suspects of left-wing extremism, including pro-abortion groups like Planned Parenthood and Emily’s List, pro-homosexual groups like Equality PAC, Human Rights Campaign and the LGBT Victory Fund, and the anti-Israel JStreetPAC, as well as the Feminist Majority, People for the American Way and the AFL-CIO. She is campaigning on an agenda that includes socialized medicine, taxpayer funding for abortion, gun control, and amnesty for illegal aliens.

Well, good luck selling that to voters in rural Texas, ma’am. Anyone with a lick of common sense could see the problem with trying to run such a campaign in TX23, but Democrat voters in the five-way March primary paid no heed to common sense and, after she defeated Rick Trevino in a May runoff, Ms. Jones became a darling of her party’s liberal donor base. By the end of September, she had raised more than $4 million, but it now seems all that money has gone to waste.
